The house is timber through and through and makes no secret of it: floorboards that answer softly underfoot, beams visible in the ceiling, pine that fills the rooms with the smell of resin. It has none of the mansion's grandeur; what it has instead is plainness.
It leans on no neighbour's wall — it stands alone on its rise, in the middle of its own meadow. From the veranda you look out over the plain; at night the stove crackles and the sky opens as it never does in a city.
For two: for people who come to read, to walk, or to do nothing at all.
